Library Assistant, Part-time (Eagle Rock)

Botetourt County Library is seeking a part-time library assistant for the Eagle Rock Library just north of Eagle Rock, VA. Someone holding this position will usually work 20 hours a week  mostly on afternoons and Saturdays. Ability to work until 7 PM three evenings a week and from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays is required. Duties for this position include customer service at the circulation desk, shelving materials, helping patrons find information, providing assistance with computers and the online catalog and other duties as assigned. Applicants must have good clerical skills, the ability to use online library catalogs and good customer service skills. Applicants must have education equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional education and library experience are preferred but not required.

Salary:  $7.50 per hour.

Recreation Maintenance Worker - Part-time

Botetourt County is accepting applications to fill two part-time seasonal maintenance worker positions in the Parks and Recreation Depart­ment.  Preferred qualifica­tions in­clude experience in land­scaping and grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, shoveling and the operation of tools and equipment needed to perform these duties including riding and push mowers, weed-trimmers and hand tools.  This position will primarily work Mon-Fri 7:00am to 3:30pm, up to 24 hrs per week.  Some periodic evening or weekend duty may be required. This position requires the applicant to be able to work outdoors and be able to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity for periods up to eight hours per day.  Appli­cants must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving record.

Starting rate of pay is up to $10.00 per hour.

Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Botetourt County, Virginia (population 33,486 located within the Roanoke Valley) is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.  The successful candidate will lead a very progressive and evolving combination department of 12 volunteer agencies and full-time staff of 33. This position is currently vacant due to the recent passing of the incumbent Chief.

The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in the field, and be responsible for all aspects of Fire, EMS and emergency management. He/She will recognize the importance and value of emergency service volunteers, bring or establish creative programs that will recognize, utilize and work to grow the volunteer ranks. This position requires a team oriented, consensus-building leader, with a strong history of proven management experiences in fire services, EMS or emergency management; 2-year degree or commensurate education and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication, budgeting, strategic planning, analytical and organization skills needed. The ideal candidate will have extensive background in administering a combination department that includes several volunteer agencies and career staff operating as components of a county-wide system.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and includes a competitive benefits package, including state retirement.

Volunteering

  • Recreation

The Recreation Department is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues. The Botetourt Sports Complex has attracted more than 40,000 visitors to Botetourt since opening in July of 2007. It received the Best New Facility Award from the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society in 2008, Pioneer Athletics Field of the Year Award in 2011, and Amateur Softball Associations Complex of the Year in 2012.
