EMT/Firefighter - ALS (full-time and part-time)

Botetourt County is accepting applications for fulltime and part-time FF/EMT-ALS positions. These positions will report directly to the Department of Fire and EMS but will work closely with volunteer fire & EMS agencies. Duties will focus on the provisions of fire suppression and emergency medical care.

Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age, high school graduate or GED, valid non-restricted Virginia driver’s license with good driving record, current EVOC (minimum of class 2).¬† Must be currently certified as an EMT-I or P with verifiable field experience and current CPR. PEPP, PHTLS, and ACLS preferred. VDFP Firefighter I or NFPA 1001 equivalent required, FFII preferred. Must be able to pass a comprehensive medical exam. Will be required to perform all physical tasks associated with fire suppression, emergency medical services, and related activities.

Full-time starting salary up to $37,000, DOQ

Botetourt County Employment Application


Building Official

Botetourt County has an immediate opening for a Building Official. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package. An employee in this class performs and supervises plan reviews and inspections making sure there is compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the County Code. This position also serves as a resource to other offices and departments. Education equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive responsible experience in building construction work is required. Must be a Certified Building Official or complete the requirements for Certified Building Official within twelve (12) months from appointment. Must have a valid Virginia driver's license and have a good driving record. The successful applicant will train under the current, retiring Building Official and is anticipated to assume the full duties of the position on March 2, 2015.

Starting salary $43,234 to 64,504, DOQ

Botetourt County has an immediate opening for a Building Inspector. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package. Position requires knowledge of building construction materials and practices and methods of design and of County and related codes and ordinances pertaining to building construction, alteration, and repair. Must have excellent record keeping, communications, and interpersonal skills. Must be certified in various fields of inspection within 18 months of appointment and be certified as an erosion and sediment control inspector within 12 months of appointment. Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Starting salary $31,498 to $35,000, DOQ

Volunteering

  • Recreation

The Recreation Department is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues. Several Civil War Trails markers are found in and around the Town of Buchanan that tell the story of Hunter's Raid. One tells how Confederate Gen. McCausland fired on the covered bridge, in the face of Hunter's advancing army. After setting the fire, McCausland swam across the James to safety as Union soldiers fired at him.
