Friends of the Botetourt County Library Poetry Contest

WHO can enter?
Anyone in grades 6 and up including adults.
WHAT are the rules?
Poems should not exceed 35 lines in length. There is a limit of two poems per person.
WHEN should poems be submitted.?
Poems may be submitted between March 1 and March 30, 2013.
WHERE should poems be submitted?
Poems may be submitted to any of Botetourt County Library’s locations including Blue Ridge, Buchanan, Eagle Rock, Fincastle and the Bookmobile. Entries may also be mailed to Jackie Mullins, Fincastle Library, P.O. Box 129, Fincastle, VA 24090.
HOW will the poems be judged?
Poems will be judged in four different groups: Grades 6-7, Grades 8-9, Grades 10-12 and Adult. There will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Honorable Mentions in each group. The judge will be Mr. Charles Finn. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three places in each group. The prize for first place is $30, 2nd place is $15, and 3rd place is $10.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Students should include their name, grade, phone number, e-mail, teacher’s name and school on the back of their poems.
- Adults should include their name, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail on the back of their poems.
- Winners will be invited to read their poems at the awards ceremony in Fincastle on April 24.
- Entrants who wish to have their poems returned to them should include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
