The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism sponsors sports programs, offers a wide range of classes and trips, and maintains recreational facilities for the enjoyment of Botetourt County residents.The Tourism Office provides visitors with a wealth of local, regional and state information.

Department Information

Recreation Advisory Commission

The Recreation Advisory Commission serves as the advisory body to the Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. It consists of five voting members and three liaison, non-voting members appointed by the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors. The voting members represent the magisterial districts in Botetourt County: Amsterdam, Blue Ridge, Buchanan, Fincastle and Valley.

Regular meetings of the Recreation Advisory Commission shall be held at the Old District Court Meeting Room in Fincastle at 6:30 PM on the first Monday of alternating months, starting with January of each New Year (meeting dates: Jan., March, May, July, Sept., Nov.). When a meeting falls on a legal holiday, the meeting shall be held on the day following, unless otherwise designated by the Commission.

Five-Year Parks and Recreation Plan

The Five-Year Parks and Recreation Plan was released to the public in May 2007. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of the department to the recreation needs of Botetourt County.

The Botetourt Sports Complex has attracted more than 40,000 visitors to Botetourt since opening in July of 2007. It received the Best New Facility Award from the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society in 2008, Pioneer Athletics Field of the Year Award in 2011, and Amateur Softball Associationís Complex of the Year in 2012.
