Athletics Mission Statement
The mission of the Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Department is to provide professionally managed, safe and healthy recreational programs tailored to the needs of the community. These services shall be offered to enrich the quality of life for all citizens and to encourage long-term lifestyle pursuits to all participants.
Game Cancellation Hotline
Game cancellation information can be obtained by calling (540) 473-8326 during normal weekday business hours (8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) or (540) 473-8326 ext. 4 after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays or after 7:00 a.m. on weekends.
Online Youth Sport Registrations Run May 1 - June 20! 
Beginning May 1, fall sports registrations that include football, soccer, and cheerleading, six of the seven booster clubs in Botetourt County (Cloverdale, Fincastle, Greenfield, Eagle Rock, Buchanan and TDAC) will be taking their sport registrations online by clicking on the link above. Fall sports registrations begin May 1 and end on June 20. Citizens without internet access can still register by completing the ATHLETIC REGISTRATION FORM and returning it, along with payment, to the Parks and Recreation office in Fincastle, VA.
New Instructional League (6 Year Old) To Be Offered in Youth Basketball This Fall
To compliment our current Biddy basketball league (7-8 year olds), Botetourt County will also hold registrations for a new 6 year old Instructional basketball league to be played concurrent with the Biddy league this Fall. This league will be governed by the same bylaws as the Biddy league and will also be played on 8 foot goals. Registrations for both of these leagues will begin on September 1 and end on September 30.
NEW for Fall 2008! - Mens Rec and Mens Open Adult Fall Softball League
Registrations for the new adult fall softball league will run from July 1 - August 12. Registrations will be taken for Mens Rec, Mens Open and Coed Open divisions. The registration fee is $325 per team and must be paid by the managers meeting on August 12 at 6pm at Read Mountain Middle School. Games will be played as doubleheaders on Tuesday nights at the Botetourt Sports Complex starting August 26. Click on the following link to view an INFORMATIONAL FLIER for the league.
ADULT ROSTERS also serve as your team's registration form and can now be completed and submitted online to the Parks and Recreation Department.
Adult Church Coed Softball
Click on the following link to view the LEAGUE SCHEDULE, INFORMATIONAL FLIER or BYLAWS for the league. The POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT will be played at the Botetourt Sports Complex.
ADULT ROSTERS can now be completed and submitted online to the Parks and Recreation Department.
Coaches: Rosters Can Now Be Completed Online

Coaches Background Screenings
Botetourt County Parks and Recreation is committed to providing a safe environment for the children in our sports programs. We will do this by conducting background screenings on all volunteers who will coaching in our program. Booster Clubs
There are 7 booster clubs in
Botetourt County, geographically located within the County school districts.
The booster clubs, comprised of volunteers, help with player sign-ups,
form teams according to County draft rules and locate coaches for each
team. Typically a child will play for the club corresponding to the elementary
school where he or she would attend. Please contact the BOOSTER CLUB in your area for dates and locations of sign-ups.

Parent and Coaches Certifications
In an effort to educate both parents and coaches on the importance of athletics in the development of children, Botetourt County requires that at least one parent of each child complete the PAYS program and ALL coaches coaching in our program complete the NYSCA program. Descriptions and links to the web site for each program are listed below.
PAYS - Parents Association For Youth Sports
The PAYS educational program is a training seminar that is administered by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and offers a simple, effective way to make parents aware of their roles and responsibilities and offers ways they can make the youth sports experience more enjoyable and positive. Parents are required to watch this video and pay the
annual $5.00 membership fee before his/her child will be allowed
to play recreational sports in Botetourt County. Certifications

NYSCA-
National Youth Sport Coaches Association
The
NYSCA volunteer coaches training program is designed to inform coaches
of their responsibilities while working with youth athletic teams.
Topics covered within the training include, the emotional and physical
well being of players, teaching fair play and good sportsmanship, coaching
techniques for appropriate age groups and offering well-organized
and fun practices. Coaches are required to attend a training session
and pay the annual $25 membership fee before he/she will be allowed
to coach a youth sports team in Botetourt County. Certifications are
available online at www.nays.org
